“いつしか「彫刻とは何か」、それを探ることが制作の原動力になっていました。物事には言葉があって、その言葉には境界が曖昧なことが多いように思います。その言葉と言葉の境界にあるものこそ大切で、本質に少し近づけるような気がしています。

私の作品は鑑賞者と作品のコミュニケーションを経て完成するとも言えるのではないかと思っています。鑑賞者になにかしら思考が生まれ、感情や感動が生まれることを望んでいます。そして彫刻の本質や人の認識について、私自身が探求していきたいのです。” (「LINE」シリーズに寄せた文章より）



石川は「彫刻とは何か」という問いに対して、大理石という素材と向き合い、「曖昧な境界」を探る行為として、立つことのできない人体彫刻「自立しない人」や、人の認識や思考に問いかける「LINE」シリーズなどのアプローチを続ける。2012年東京藝術大学大学院 美術研究科修士課程 彫刻専攻修了。東京都出身。

“Exploring 《what is sculpture ?》has become the driving force of my production. I think things have words, but those words often have ambiguous boundaries. I feel that what is at the boundary between words is important and is a little closer to the essence.

It can be said that my works will be completed through communication between the viewer and the work. So I hope that the viewer will have some thoughts, emotions or impressions against my works. In response to the question《what is sculpture ?》, Ishikawa confronts the material of marble and keeps exploring ambiguous boundaries, producing ‘Person not independent’ which is human body sculptures not standing by themselves, ‘LINE’ series stimulating human perception and thinking. He graduated from Department of Sculpture, Graduate School of Fine Arts, Tokyo University of Arts in 2012. Born in Tokyo.
