Gallery Pictor では2023年12月2日(土)～12月22日(金)まで、 柵瀨 茉莉子 ソロ・エキシビション《思い浮かべて》を開催いたします。
柵瀨は「縫う」という行為を通して、私たちの周囲を取り巻く自然環境や物理現象を再現するような作品を生み出します。
木の葉っぱ、木片、花びら、貝殻などの自然物に縫い糸が通されると、その造形が何かのシンボルのようにくっきりと浮かび上がります。
近年は二児の母親として、子どもとのインタラクションの過程で、子どもの目線でみた風景やその時の感情、跳ねたり走ったりする身体運動が作品に活かされることもあります。
今展では、そんな日常生活のなかで私たちが感じる空気、音、色など、かたちのないものを「縫う」ことで表現する方法を探ります。
アーティストステートメント
一瞬をどのように感じとってきたのだろう?
秋の虫の音、あの日の海の色、からだの記憶、
心と体と頭で考えることは他の人にはみることができないし、
自分もうっかりするとすぐ 忘れてしまう。
心と体と頭で感じることはどこまでも果てしなく自由が守られる。
目をとじて、感じとろうとするとうっすらとみえてくる。
つかめそうでつかめないけれど、 確かにある感覚をどうしたら表現できるか。
空気や音を色で例えるなら何色だろう。
それを縫いにできないかな。
子どもたちと走る。刻まれているリズムに気づく。
それを縫いにしてみたい。
まるで連想ゲームのよう。
私たちはその一瞬をどのように感じとってきたのだろう?
その一瞬をどのように感じとっていくのだろう?
柵瀨 茉莉子 略歴
「縫う」ことを表現手段とし、 主に木片や花びら、貝といった自然物を素材に制作。2020年、横浜美術館による若手作家の展示企画 New Artist Picksに選出され「柵瀨茉莉子展｜いのちを縫う」開催。VOCA展2022 出品。第69回神奈川文化賞未来賞 受賞(2020)。筑波大学芸術専門学群構成専攻クラフト領域(木工)卒業、同大学院博士前期課程芸術専攻クラフト領域(木工) 修了。

ワークショップ「海をつくろう」
12月9日(土)に、柵瀨茉莉子のレクチャーによるワークショップを開催します。
はじめに海の色を思い浮かべて、その色を絵の具でつくり、糸に染み込ませて布に縫います。糸を引き抜くと「縫いじみ」ができます。
その後、由比ガ浜へ歩いて行って、実際の海の色をみて、ギャラリーに戻り、こんどは海の色の糸を選んで「縫いじみ」の上に縫い足していきます。
出来上がった作品は、柵瀨茉莉子の個展会期中は展示をさせていただき、会期終了後にお返しします。

We are pleased to have Mariko Sakurai Solo Exhibition Call to Mind from Saturday, 2nd December through Friday, 22nd December.
Through the act of sewing, Sakurai creates works that recreate the natural environment and physical phenomena that surround us.
When the sewing thread goes through natural objects such as leaves, wood chips, flower petals, and shells, the shapes emerge clearly as if they were symbols of something.
In recent years, as a mother of two children, through the process of interaction with them, she sometimes uses the scenery from the children’s point of view, their emotions, and their physical movements such as jumping and running in her works.
In this exhibition, she will explore ways to express the formless things we feel in our daily lives, such as air, sound, and color, by “sewing” them.
Mariko Sakurai’s Statement
How have we felt the moment?
The sound of insects in autumn, the color of the sea on that day, the memory of the body…
What you thinks with your heart, body, and mind cannot be seen by others,
and you yourself forgets it easily if you are careless.
The freedom to feel with your heart, body and mind is completely and endlessly protected.
When I close my eyes and try to sense it, I can see it faintly.
How can we express a feeling that seems to be elusive, but is certainly there?
If air and sound could be compared to colors, what color would they be?
Can I make those things into stitches?
When I run with the children, I notice the rhythm that is being beated.
I want to make it into stitches.
It is like an association game.

Mariko Sakurai Short Biography
Sakurai uses “sewing” as a means of expression, working mainly with natural materials such as wood chips, flower petals, and shells. In 2020, she was selected for New Artist Picks by Yokohama Museum of Art and her solo show Sewing Lives was held at the museum. The winner of the 69th Kanagawa Culture Award-Outstanding Youth Award (2020). Master’s degree of Art and Design (Crafts), Graduate School of Comprehensive Human Sciences, University of Tsukuba.

*1:00-4:00PM on Saturday 9th Dec will be closed due to the workshop.
