樹々のざわめきや水面のゆらぎ、移ろう光と影、生命の息づかい。自然の造形から生み出される星野の作品は、観る者に生物としての直感的な反応を呼び起こします。
日本画の基礎を持ちつつ、ポリエステル、シリコンシート、グラファイトなど、様々な素材を用いて新たな表現の世界を切り拓いているドイツ在住作家の日本では6年ぶりとなる個展です。ぜひご高覧ください。
Rustling of leaves, ripples on water, shifting light and shadow, or the breathing of life: those sounds and forms of nature let Hoshino create artworks which remind us of an intuitive feeling of being. The inquisitive artist presents a fresh approach and visual language evolved from a foundation of Japanese painting, utilizing materials such as polyester, silicon sheets, or graphite.
We hope you will enjoy this new solo show, which will be the first in Japan in six years by this German based artist.
Artist Statement
作品というものが作家というフィルターを通して立ち現れる現象だとしたら、この「わたし」とは何だろう？ 生温かく柔らかく外界から守り隔てる皮膜で覆われた、水分を多く含む生命体 – そして周りを見回せば、この世界には皮膚よりも更に強固に人と人を分割し隔てる境界線がそこここにある事に気がつく。
どこまでも広がる大きな空の、水面の漣に静かにゆらめく青に引き込まれそうになる時、境界という概念はその曖昧な水の膜と一緒にゆらゆらと頼りなく、そしてわたしの心もざわざわと揺れる。そもそも境界なんていうもの自体、曖昧な定義や勝手な解釈や偏見から創り上げられたただの幻想なのかもしれない….

If an artwork is a phenomenon that emerges through the filter of I, the artist, then what is “I”? A water-rich organism bounded by a warm, soft membrane which protects it from the outside world. Yet, there are many borders in this world that divide and separate people even more strongly than our own skin.
When you feel drawn into the blue of the vast sky that gently shimmers on the water surface, the concept of boundaries is unreliable like the barely discernible water surface, and my heart sways freely. The boundary itself, I think, may be mostly an illusion created from ambiguous definitions, subjective interpretations or prejudices ….

1991年多摩美術大学絵画科日本画卒業。1994年に渡米、後にオーストリア、イギリス（ロンドン）、そして2010年より現在のドイツを生活の拠点に、制作、発表を続けている。

Mitsuko Hoshino graduated from Tama Art University in Tokyo, Japan in 1991. She left Japan in 1994, lived in USA, Austria, UK (London), and since 2010 she is based in Germany.
