大森啓・長谷川宏美 二人展 [view]

Akira Ohmori & Hiromi Hasegawa Joint Exhibition [view]

Omori’s “painting”, which depicts structures similar to blocks and familiar objects, has no background or frame. It draws the viewer between the unrealistic feeling which suddenly appears and the reality that is certainly there as a substance.

Hasegawa draws, using everyday scenes such as tabletops and gardens as a motif on the canvas, the twist of space caused by light, color, refraction through glass, etc.

Their [views] created between reality and fiction on the canvas will stimulate each other.

Artists Statement

– 大森 啓

For more than 15 years, I have drawn “the shape of the object to be drawn,” such as building blocks, as the shape of the support medium.

The mystery of the painting space becomes even more apparent when the drawn object and the real space exist next to each other without the background surrounded by the rectangle.

I have been sticking to the mechanism that generates illusion and I will continue exploring the creation of “rich surface = painting” that encloses various objects, spaces, stories, thoughts, and emotions.

– 長谷川 宏美

I draw pictures by connecting pieces of everyday life that are universally repeated. My interests are in familiar landscapes, indoor still lifes, plants, and especially focus on transparent materials such as glass bottles.

The distorted shapes through the glass, the light and shadow created by the sunlight through the windows, and the fluctuations in the shape – they make the things that exist there sometimes clear and sometimes ambiguous. Going back and forth, like our hearts.

I drew such works as if you are looking inside everyday light. I hope everybody will enjoy this exhibition.

– Hiromi Hasegawa
