2世紀インド仏教の僧・龍樹は

あらゆる現象はそれぞれの関係の上に成り立ち、

それ自身のみで存在する「独立した不変の実体」はない、

すなわち「空」である、と説きました。

この世界は、すべての主体が、すべての場所で、

互いに依存し合って成り立っていると。

21世紀の現在、量子物理学がそれを裏付ける理論を構築しつつあります。

量子の世界に、明確な属性を持つ実体や互いに独立した実体はなく、

他との関係・相互作用があってはじめて、

存在が・出来事が成り立ち、現実を織り成す。

分子生物学の世界で

約半世紀の間セントラルドグマ（=中心教義）とされてきた

全ての生命が従うはずの基本原理があります。

遺伝情報はDNA→RNA→タンパク質の順に伝達されるというルールです。

しかし現代の私たちは、RNAからDNAへ

遺伝情報が逆転写することもあるということを 知り始めています。

私たちがこの半世紀から1世紀の間に築いてきた諸々の制度や秩序は

こうした “中心教義” を前提にしています。

再生産され続ける資源を前提としていた経済システム、

規則的に順当に季節が巡ることを前提としていた生活様式、

しかしその前提が揺らぎはじめた今、

それに依って立つ制度や秩序も書き換えられていくほかありません。

それには、私たちの考え方や振る舞いも変えざるを得ないでしょう。

はるか昔に龍樹が唱え、現代の物理学で解明しつつある世界観では、

たった一つの司令塔のような制御の中心はなく、

すべてのものが中心となり得ます。

中心はいつでも逆転し得るし、中心が多数存在することもあり得るはずです。

ヒトも、ヒト以外の生物も、あるいは非生物も、

地上のすべてのものが主体にも客体にもなり得て、

互いに関係し合うことで現実をつくっていけるというビジョンは

堅牢で揺るぎないと信じていた中心を失いはじめた世界における希望なのです。

Nagarjuna, a Buddhist monk in the second century India, taught that all phenomena are based on relationships among themselves and there is no “independent and unchanging entity” that exists by itself, that is described as “openness” or “emptiness”.

This world is made up of subjects that all dependent on each other.

In the 21st century, we are building the discoveries of quantum mechanics supporting this idea.

In the quantum world, there are no entities with definite attributes or entities that are independent of each other.

All existence and events is made up only through relationships and interactions with other, and it is the accumulation of these relationships and interactions that creates reality.

There is a basic principle that all life should follow that has been called “central dogma” for almost half a century  in the molecular biology community. This is the rule that genetic information is transmitted in the order of DNA, RNA, and protein. However, today we are beginning to learn that genetic information can be reverse transcribed from RNA to DNA.

The systems and order that we have built over the past half century to a century are based on these “central dogma-like” assumptions (that turned out to be oversimplistic). For example, an economic system that was based on the assumption that resources would continue to be replenished; a way of life that was based on the regular and orderly cycle of the seasons, etc.

However, now that these assumptions have begun to collapse, the systems and order that depend on them will have to be rewritten.

This will force us to change the way we think and behave.

In the worldview espoused by Nagarjuna so long ago, and which modern physics is beginning to unravel, there is no single commanding center of control; everything can be a center, in fact, there should be multitude centers, and any one center can be reversed at any time.

The vision that everything on earth, human, non-human, and non-living, can be both subject and object, and that we can create reality by relating to each other, is in fact a hope in a world that has begun to lose the center that we believed to be solid and unchangeable.
